Historically, seeds for the Franciscan Health System were planted in 1891 when the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia founded St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma (now called St. Joseph Medical Center, the flagship hospital of the Franciscan Health System). The organization has grown with the enduring goal of fulfilling the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those we serve as emphasized in our Mission and Values.
