Acadamic Adult Cardiac Surgeon

Description
BACKGROUND:
The University of Mississippi Medical Center, the state’s only academic medical center, has a strong history of excellence in cardiothoracic surgery and surgeons. This history is a solid foundation for the recently forged partnership between Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi and UMMC for the invigoration of its cardiac surgery program.
With over 400 beds, Anderson Regional Medical Center has been an anchor for the community of Meridian for nearly 100 years. It has successfully operated the city’s sole cardiac surgery program for decades. The recent retirement of the program’s cardiac surgeon opened an opportunity for the collaboration between UMMC and Anderson . Its cardiac surgery service is supported by a large cardiology practice, which includes seven interventionalists conducting over 1000 left heart catheterizations annually. The practice promises robust volume covering the full spectrum of cardiac surgery, while being fully supported with dedicated nurse practitioners, physician assistants, surgical first assistants and a specialized cardiac team in the operating room.
Additionally, the adult cardiac surgery service at UMMC currently performs the full spectrum of care, including routine and complex all arterial coronary revascularization, redo cardiac surgery, complex aortic and arch work, structural heart interventions and valve surgeries, TAVR, mechanical circulatory support and transplantation.
UMMC also has strong congenital cardiac and thoracic programs, performing the full complement of surgery in their respective fields.
We are seeking a candidate to lead the cardiac surgery team at Anderson as a fully integrated faculty member in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at UMMC. The ideal candidate will perform the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery with the complete support of partners at UMMC. The candidate will benefit from the affiliation with the academic cardiac surgical division through access to established transfer pathways for complex patients, quality review and clinical support.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The candidate will be a fully integrated and supported faculty member within the Division of Adult Cardiac Surgery at UMMC, based in Meridian. There will be a focus on developing a leadership role in the cardiac surgery program at Anderson, which is approximately 90 miles east of the main UMMC campus.
